In 1987, SkillsUSA Massachusetts introduced a design competition to bring fresh ideas and greater student involvement to the State Skill Olympics—now known as the SkillsUSA Championships—through the official state conference T-shirt and trading pin designs. The competition quickly became a success, giving students the opportunity to see their own creativity represented across the organization and building greater excitement around the event.

The program has since become an annual SkillsUSA Massachusetts tradition. In 2017, the National Conference T-shirt design competition was added, giving members another opportunity to create artwork that represents Massachusetts on the national stage.

All paid-in-full SkillsUSA members are eligible to participate, and multiple entries from each school are welcome in every design category. Students may enter one, several, or all of the competitions, making this a great opportunity to build school-wide enthusiasm, showcase student creativity, and potentially earn recognition at the State or National Conference.
