NLSC2010: We won!

SkillsUSA Massachusetts returned to the 46th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri with 140 competitors. We came back with 48 medals: 18 gold, 19 silver, 11 bronze, and 113 top 10 finishes. We also have three Presidential Volunteer Service Awardees, and one National Officer. We had the 4th highest medal count in the nation.

Ricky's Campaign Speech

On June 23rd, 2010, Ricky Jordan, our State Reporter and National Officer Candidate, gave this speech to the national SkillsUSA delegate assembly:

Responsibility. Involvement. Commitment. Knowledge. Your choice for Region 1 Vice President! My name is Ricky Jordan. I will be a senior at Bay Path High School in Charlton, Massachusetts this fall and it is an honor and a privilege to stand before you today as a candidate for National office.

Why am I a candidate? The answer can be found in the letters of my first name: RICKY.

Over the past year I have served my state association as the reporter, which required me to take on and live up to the Responsibility.

Sometimes I had to choose playing in a football game or attending a metting for SkillsUSA, and I chose the meeting in order to fulfill the duties of my office.

Ricky is Responsible!

Becoming Involved in a nontraditional career, Cosmetology, I was encouraged to become involved with many activities in my school, the most important of which is SkillsUSA because it has provided me with the opportunity to be involved and move in the right direction in life.

Growing up on the streets of the city I was convinced my life was going nowhere but attending a career and technical high school and becoming a member of SkillsUSA made me think more of myself.

My mother has been the inspiration in my life because of her Commitment to giving her children a better life, a life that she didn’t have.

Her values encourage me to commit myself to every organization I become a part of, so I can assure you I do not take my membership in SkillsUSA in stride.

As our Creed states, satisfaction is achieved by good work. I believe that I fit the description for a quality national officer because I have the knowledge, skills, and experience to serve you well.

SkillsUSA will again stream live video from the National Leadership and Skills Conference this year. Coverage includes live broadcasts from the Opening Ceremony and Awards Ceremony, as well as daily coverage from the conference:

Opening Ceremony
Wednesday, June 23rd, with live coverage beginning at 6:00PM (one hour before the event)
(Please note that this year the Opening Ceremony is on a Wednesday!)

Friday, June 25th, with live coverage beginning at 5:00PM (one hour before the event)

Begins Tuesday, June 22nd, with broadcasts at 10 AM and 4 PM

Advisors: Registration Information for Nationals

Now that State Conference is complete, it is time to get things in order for Nationals. We have uploaded registration information and forms—please read the instructions carefully. Registration is due by May 15th, which is less than two weeks from now.
