Where are they now? Bolton woman cooks up success in culinary world

The Bolton Common has whipped up an article about Krista Burgoyne. As some may recall, Krista was a medalist three years in a row in the Commercial Baking competition at the National level, and was certainly the youngest—she was a sophomore at the time—to ever earn a gold medal at that level. Looks like she’s been keeping busy:
As a student at Minuteman Regional High School in Lexington, where she graduated in 2007, she quickly discovered she had an aptitude for culinary arts, especially baking. Encouraged by Minuteman culinary instructor Norman Myerow, who became Burgoyne’s mentor, sounding board, cheering section and dear friend (“I will thank him until the day I die,” she enthuses), she attained a level of proficiency and excellence that took her to gold medal-winning status in national competitions and to one of the most prestigious cooking schools in the nation, the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., where Burgoyne, 19, is now a sophomore.
On Jan. 22, she concluded an 18-week externship at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Working 40-plus hours a week under the tutelage of an executive pastry chef from Switzerland, Burgoyne has enhanced her knowledge of sophisticated techniques while producing wedding cakes, pastries, and desserts by the hundreds.
